Itinerary

Day 1Cusco – Tinqui – Upis

Machu Picchu 360 starts the Ausangate Trek with an early pickup from Cusco. The drive to Tinqui takes 3 hours. Hikers meet their guides and prepare for the trek.

The first leg is a 4-hour hike to Upis. Hikers see Ausangate’s south face up close. They camp near hot springs for a soothing soak. The day ends with a hearty meal under the stars.

Day 2Upis – Lake Ausangate Qocha

Day two begins with coca tea to energize hikers. They’ll embark on a 7-hour hike across the Arapa Pass (4,850m). The trail offers stunning views of mountain ranges and local wildlife.

Lunch is at Yanacocha (Black Lake). The day’s trek ends at Anantapata, where the camp is. Dinner overlooks the Vilcanota Mountain Range.

Day 3Route: Q’ampa – Pacchanta

The third day is a highlight: a 6-hour hike to Rainbow Mountain. Hikers will leave early to beat the crowds. 

After visiting Rainbow Mountain, the trek continues to Ausangate Cocha. Camp is near the lake, offering serene views. Hikers will rest for the final day’s challenge.

Day 4Pacchanta – Cusco

The last day starts with a 5-hour hike to the Jampa pass. Hikers will enjoy panoramic views of Apu Ausangate. The descent to Pacchanta takes 2 hours. 

Hikers can relax in hot springs before the drive back to Cusco. The journey concludes with a celebration dinner, marking the end of the Ausangate Trek.

The Ausangate Trek is best undertaken during the dry season, from April to October. During the rainy season, the trek is still possible but might be more challenging.
