Recommendations

To fully enjoy the Choquequirao Trek, it is recommended to spend at least one or two days acclimatizing in Cusco before starting the adventure. Although the trek descends into the canyon, it still involves hiking at moderate to high elevations.

Wear comfortable trekking clothing in layers, since temperatures can change significantly between the canyon and higher elevations. A lightweight waterproof jacket or rain poncho is also recommended, especially during the rainy season.

Travelers should bring sturdy hiking boots with good grip, as the trail includes steep ascents and descents along mountain paths. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are essential due to the strong sun in the Apurímac Canyon.

Carry a small backpack with water, snacks, and personal essentials for the hike. Trekking poles are highly recommended, as they can help reduce strain during the long descents and climbs.

Don’t forget to bring a camera to capture the breathtaking views and the impressive ruins of Choquequirao Archaeological Site, one of the most spectacular and lesser-visited Inca sites in Peru.
