Recommendations

To fully enjoy the 2 Day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, it is recommended to spend at least one or two days acclimatizing in Cusco before starting the trek. Although this is a shorter version of the classic trail, it still takes place at high altitude in the Andes.

Wear comfortable hiking clothes in layers, since temperatures can change quickly between the morning, afternoon, and evening. A waterproof jacket or rain poncho is highly recommended, especially during the rainy season.

A good pair of hiking boots with proper grip is essential because some sections of the trail include stone steps and uneven terrain. Travelers should also bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect from the strong Andean sun.

Carry a small backpack with water, snacks, and personal essentials for the hike. Don’t forget your camera to capture the incredible landscapes along the trail and the breathtaking views when arriving at Machu Picchu.

Since permits for the Inca Trail are limited, it is strongly recommended to book several months in advance to secure your spot.
